The Facts About Calorie

Chemistry Dictionary defines calorie as the quantity of heat required to raise the temperature of 1 gram of water by 1°C (1 K). Wow, what's that? You might ask. Don't get overwhelmed about the definition.

Simple understanding is...."You eat excess amount of calories, you get fat. You eat less amount of calories, you lose weight". We are not going to talk about losing weight here but about some facts about food that many of us are not aware of.

Negative Calorie Foods? Is there really any such foods that actually make you losing weight? By the way, why negative calorie? Negative calorie foods are foods that are supposed to burn up more calories in the process of digesting them than are actually contained in the food themselves.

Consider this facts

  1. A piece of dessert consisting of 400 Calories (actually 400 kilocalories) may only require 150 Calorie (actually 150 kilocalories) to digest by our body, resulting in a net gain of 250 calories which is added to our body fat !
  2. On the other hand, a 5 calorie raw piece of celery will require much more calories to chew and digest, so resulting in a net loss of calories from our body fat !! It implies that the more you eat, the more you lose weight!!!
